the Public’s Safety, Say NO to Precinct Closings

The Nassau County Legislature is about to take up County Executive Mangano’s reorganization of the county’s police department, a plan which will eliminate half of the police precincts.
Under the plan, the First Precinct in Baldwin, the Fifth Precinct in Elmont, the Sixth Precinct in Manhasset, and the Eighth Precinct in Levittown will be dismantled and turned into community policing centers, each staffed with only two officers.
The First and the Fifth precincts rank second and third among Nassau’s eight precincts in total crimes reported.
The police force has already been downsized to its lowest staffing levels in more than 60 years while the County’s population has doubled. This plan will compromise the services and protection County residents deserve without providing any details about how it will save costs.
Please contact your Legislator and County Executive Mangano and ask that they OPPOSE THIS PLAN. Let them know that these drastic changes will have profound consequences on public safety and the quality of life for Nassau County residents.
